Hyperbole and a Half: Humor in the Little Things

Too busy to laugh and notice the humor in the little things around you? Yes, things can  at times get too weighty with a real mighty heave, but—hey! Amid life’s punches, remember to pause. And take a shot of Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh. A good laugh is great for the heart, if not for one’s well-being.

I was too engrossed at my chores, like actually glued at wrapping everything up. Until I realized how can I be done with all my stuff when I’m so stupefied that they haunt me even in my catnap? So, I searched for comic books. And this one by Brosh trends across the web, as one of the most hilarious books.

Why read Hyperbole and a Half? If you can’t figure out yet how to begin a clean slate, and toxicities burn you into the brink of depression; OR you simply want to laugh your heart out after a long day—this book is for you.

“The most frustrating thing about depression is it isn’t always something you can fight back against with hope. It isn’t even something—it’s nothing. And you can’t combat nothing. You can’t fill it up. You can’t cover it. It’s just there, pulling the meaning out of everything. That being the case, all the hopeful, proactive solutions start to sound completely insane in contrast to the scope of the problem.”

Here, the readers will find themselves smiling, and even giggling at Brosh’s satires and hyperboles. They’ll find the author’s work as too relatable (in a way); and discern that while some problems don’t even have a solution though she isn’t necessarily looking for one—it’s okay. Everything will be okay. Detours happen because reason dictates that it has its own purpose for happening. This book may, at one point, lead the reader to look inward; and find humor in the things she overlooks .

Finally, while we don’t laugh at depression in general, Hyperbole and a Half shows that there is humor in many little things—if we look closely. And it’s sometimes enough to keep us going, see the thin lines in life, get to the finish line, and break a leg.
